Well I have successfully created a full piece of clothing. My raincoat is done with 2 days to spare. I am going to the UK with a very stylish coat. I love it! I also have a great new over the shoulder hipster bag from Vera Bradley.

This is a blog to follow my adventures in sewing and crafts. I have taken a real interest since I learned how to use a sewing machine.

Raincoat Update
Well I have started on my wonderful raincoat! The liner has been complete for a couple of weeks now thanks to my boyfriends mom. She is such a fast sewer, she went down stairs with the liner pieces and came up 20 minutes later with a complete liner. All that is left is to attach the sleeves, sew the exterior and liner together and attach the buttons. I have 5 days until I head home to fly to London. I hope I can finish it all! I know I can do it but I just need to sit down and get it done. I need to start packing asap. I will be sure to post pictures when the coat is finished, hopefully tonight.

A cute summer tote
My next project is going to be the lovely raincoat from Amy Butler once the fabric arrives :) I hope the the making of the raincoat doesn't take to long since I need it for my trip.
I have also created a sewing buddy of sorts. My new roommate is also making the above bag. We want to the Quilt house and purchased fabric for her.

Summer in Europe... do I need a rain coat?

I am traveling to dreary London this summer and think that I might need a raincoat. I haven't had a raincoat since it had Barbie faces all over it. I was checking on my favorite fabric designers website today for a new pattern or two when I found this!! Amy Butlers pattern information can be found here. I never even thought about laminated fabrics before today. New possibilities.. I just love that it has a hood.
New Things: Summer Projects
I have gotten a lot of new goodies over the last couple of months but finals and life just got in the way. I have lots of new fabric that are going to become beautiful new bags. I just am in love with blues and greens. I also found this great pink turtles and green fabric. They go along with my sorority colors which is great.

For a gift!
The first sewing machine I used was borrowed from my boyfriends mom. She was great she allowed me to ask as many questions as I could possibly ask. She purchased a sewing machine for me this summer and I wanted to thank her with something that I had made especially for her. I found a new bag pattern that is all squares which makes it super quick to put together. Here is the final result. I picked a light color for the inside of the main bag and the pockets because it is so much easier to see what is in your bag. I also loved how little fabric was needed compared to the amount needed to make the sling bag.
When I went to a large craft store when visiting home I tried to find the magnetic snap I used for this bag. I couldn't find it! I think I am going to stick with the small quilting store here in my college town. They have such great things. They are definitely a cut above the rest.
First sewing project: Sling Bag
This is the first thing I ever made using a sewing machine. It was quite a challenge due to the curves! I have received many compliments on this bag. The only draw back is that the pattern takes a couple of days to make. It is not instant gratification bag but I seem to fall into love with everything from Amy Butler, especially her fabric. Another thing I love about this bag is the large deep pockets.
